Our Creative Journey with Sarah Sturm
At Buckel Family Wine, every bottle tells a story long before the cork is pulled. These stories have always had a visual heartbeat, one shaped by creativity, grit and a deep love for the outdoors. That’s where Sarah comes in.
From our very first labels to the ones you’re holding today, Sarah Sturm has been behind the art that defines our bottles. Known to many as a powerhouse on the bike as a Specialized team rider, we’ve always known her as something equally rare: an artist who captures a snap shot in time, a sense of place, and feeling in a way that just fits who we are. We wanted our labels to feel alive, something that reflected our family, the rugged beauty of Colorado and the spirit of doing things a little differently.
Sarah got that immediately. Her first designs didn’t just check a box, they gave us an identity. There was energy in the lines, and a connection to the landscapes we love. It felt less like hiring an artist and more like finding a creative partner who spoke the same language.
What makes Sarah’s work even more compelling is the life she lives beyond the sketchbook. As a professional cyclist, she’s built a reputation for taking on some of the toughest, most demanding races in the world including gravel epics, endurance events, and high-altitude sufferfests where grit matters as much as talent. From long days in the saddle across remote backroads to competing at the highest level of the sport, Sarah brings a level of toughness and curiosity that’s contagious.
Sarah and Buckel Family Wine have a shared Ethos. Sarah’s world split between racing bikes across the globe and creating art inspired by the terrain beneath her tires mirrors our approach to wine. It’s about exploration, pushing boundaries without losing authenticity and staying grounded while reaching for something more. What makes this collaboration work isn’t just talent, it’s alignment.
That same philosophy shows up in every vintage we produce from our structured Cabernet Franc to the playful Glug Glug, and our high altitude Pinot Noir. And it shows up on every label she designs.
As Buckel Family Wine has grown, so has the artwork. Our labels have evolved with time, new wines and new ideas. Sarah has an uncanny ability to see what we imagine while keeping the soul of Buckel Family Wine intact. Each new release feels like a continuation of the story
Working with Sarah since day one has been one of the most natural and rewarding parts of building Buckel Family Wine. It’s a relationship rooted in trust, creativity, and a shared love for what we do. For that, we’re endlessly grateful.
Next time you grab a bottle, take a moment with the label. There’s a good chance it carries a little bit of trail dust, a lot of intention, and the creative imprint of someone who’s been part of this journey from the very beginning.
Thank you Sarah!
